Algeria expands economic cooperation following decision to sever ties with UAE

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Algeria is taking swift steps to strengthen bilateral relations and explore various economic cooperations with several countries after deciding to sever diplomatic ties with the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

According to a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, delivered by the Algerian Embassy in Jakarta on Friday, Algeria’s Minister of State, Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, held discussions via video conference with Bangladesh’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Iqbal Hassan Mahmood, on Thursday (10/9).

The two ministers discussed partnership opportunities between Algeria’s state-owned oil and gas company, Sonatrach, and Bangladeshi companies in the fields of liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and petroleum products, as well as related infrastructure development.

On the same day, Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel Rezig, along with Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade, Laziz Kudratov, held an online meeting to discuss the formation of a joint business council.

Both parties agreed to develop this cooperation to strengthen direct communication between economic actors in both countries, aiming to drive investment opportunities and partnerships, as well as to support the implementation of joint economic and commercial projects.

The two ministers also discussed strengthening bilateral relations in the economic and trade sectors and exchanged views on various efforts to increase and diversify trade volumes in accordance with the economic potential of both nations.

In addition to strengthening economic cooperation, Algeria is also seeking to enhance regional stability alongside Oman.

Algeria’s Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Communities Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, spoke via telephone on Thursday (10/9) with Oman’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi.

They discussed various issues of mutual interest, particularly regional developments, and reaffirmed support for efforts aimed at easing tensions and promoting diplomatic solutions to maintain security and stability throughout the region.
