Alfamidi Minimarket in Sunter Jaya Catches Fire, Fire Suspected to Have Originated in Warehouse
JAKARTA — A fire at a minimarket on Jalan Kedondong Raya 7, RT 11/RW 06, Sunter Jaya, Tanjung Priok sub-district, North Jakarta, on Thursday night (5 March 2026) is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit from the warehouse area. Head of Operations of the Jakarta North Fire and Rescue Sub-Department (Gulkarmat), Gatot Sulaeman, said the incident was first noticed by the cashier serving customers. ‘While serving customers, the cashier saw smoke coming from the warehouse,’ he said when contacted by Kompas.com on Thursday (5 March 2026). After identifying the fire in the warehouse, staff attempted to extinguish it using a Portable Fire Extinguisher (APAR) before contacting the fire department because the fire did not extinguish. ‘Four units and 20 personnel were deployed. The area burned was approximately 4 by 6 metres,’ he added. Gatot disclosed that losses were estimated at around Rp 10 million. ‘Five people were saved. The situation is under control and has been extinguished by the officers,’ he added.
