Alfamart Responds to Talk of Restrictions, Will Continue Expansion as Long as Regulations Permit

KOMPAS.com - PT Sumber Alfaria Trijaya Tbk or AMRT, the company that manages Alfamart, stated that it will continue to comply with government policies regarding minimarket expansion. The company affirmed that it will open stores as long as regulations permit.

Corporate Affairs Director of Sumber Alfaria Trijaya, Solihin, said that the company always adheres to regulations in every region.

“So, we are a company that always complies with regulations in a region where we want to expand or open stores,” said Solihin when contacted on Wednesday (25/2/2026).

Solihin emphasized that expansion is not focused on villages. The company will enter areas that are considered to have potential and are not yet accessible.

“We will communicate to introduce ourselves and state that we want to expand. If the surrounding community and the government allow it, we will open a store,” he said.

AMRT, he continued, adheres to two principles of retail business, namely service and efficiency. The company strives to provide services that consumers like and reduce unnecessary costs.

“And how we continue to improve efficiency, so that the company is not burdened by inefficient costs in terms of unnecessary expenses. That is the principle of the retail business,” said Solihin.

Previously, the Minister of Villages and Underdeveloped Regions, Yandri Susanto, stated that the spread of minimarkets needs to be stopped if the Kopdes Merah Putih system is running.

He believes that minimarkets are already too widespread and could pose a threat to the village cooperative.
