Alfamart and the Ministry of Education Sign MoU to Strengthen Teacher Quality at 229 Vocational High Schools
Signing of the MoU was conducted by Alfamart & Alfamidi Human Capital Director Tri Wasono Sunu, Director-General of Middle Education and Vocational Education at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology Tatang Muttaqin Ph.D, and the Head of BBPPMPV Bispar Dr Nana Halim, at the BBPPMPV Bisnis dan Pariwisata office in Depok.
The collaboration focuses on strengthening the link-and-match scheme between vocational education and the modern retail industry, particularly to enhance the competencies of industrial-class teachers for the Alfamart Class & Alfamidi Class.
Currently, Alfamart Class and Alfamidi Class partner with 229 Vocational High Schools (SMK) in 23 provinces, with 16,700 active students. 7,100 graduates have already been absorbed directly as employees of Alfamart and Alfamidi, with competencies and qualities differing from non-industry class graduates.
In this cooperation, Alfamart, Alfamidi, and BBPPMPV Bispar agreed on several strategic agendas, including synchronising the Alfamart Alfamidi Class curriculum, strengthening teacher competencies through the Training for Trainers (TFT) scheme, the implementation of Practical Work Placements (PKL), and competency testing as benchmarks of readiness for teachers and graduates.
Tri Wasono Sunu, Human Capital Director of Alfamart and Alfamidi, said that since the industry-class programme was launched in 2009 at SMK PGRI 3 Malang, it has produced thousands of graduates who have been directly absorbed as employees of Alfamart and Alfamidi without additional selection.
“The commitment of this partnership further strengthens the role of teachers in the Alfamart-Alfamidi Class programme, which currently records 1,373 productive teachers teaching in partner schools. Retail management training will be provided directly by professionals from Alfamart-Alfamidi, and they will receive certification issued officially by Alfamart-Alfamidi and BBPPMPV Bispar,” Sunu said in a written statement on Friday (22 May 2026).
The collaboration also offers teachers the opportunity to experience business processes directly at Alfamart and Alfamidi outlets, so the material taught in class is truly aligned with the needs of the modern retail industry.
“Through a strategic partnership with BBPPMPV Bisnis dan Pariwisata in 2026, we do not want teacher training to be merely a formal exercise on paper. We have designed this programme comprehensively through blended learning and measurable Action Learning methods,” Sunu explained.
Director-General Tatang Muttaqin of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology welcomed the partnership as a tangible example of government-private sector synergy to advance vocational education. He emphasised the crucial role of teachers in shaping thinking patterns and competencies of students in vocational programmes, particularly in the Alfamart Class. He hopes all participants will follow each stage with full commitment and hard work.
“The role of teachers can be optimised by making them pioneers who possess proximity and the ability to instil the habit of change. Simply, students’ habits will be different when they enter the world of industry, and therefore teachers’ roles are vital in building learners’ mindsets and competencies,” he said.
Four Phases of Alfamart Class Teacher Training. The teacher training in this programme adopts an integrated scheme divided into four phases: first, online learning for two days; second, on-site class simulations for three days at the Alfamart-Alfamidi learning centre; third, direct industrial internship at outlets for 10 days; and finally, formal assessment and certification, from May to August 2026.
Head of BBPPMPV Bispar Dr Nana Halim affirmed the shared vision of the two institutions: to enhance the competencies of teachers and graduates from Alfamart Class partner SMKs. “This collaboration aims to create alignment of competencies or link-and-match between SMK education and the needs of the modern retail industry. The programme comprises 150 hours of learning facilitated by practitioners from Alfamart’s management,” he concluded.
