Alex Noerdin Remembered: A Figure Known for Innovation and Successfully Executing the Asian Games

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Former Governor of South Sumatra, Alex Noerdin, passed away on Wednesday (25/2/2026) afternoon.

Alex died at the age of 75 after undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Siloam Semanggi Hospital in Jakarta.

The body of Alex was immediately taken to his family home, located at his son, Dodi Reza’s, residence in the Kebayoran Baru area, South Jakarta.

The family home in the Kebayoran Baru area was decorated with rows of flower arrangements expressing condolences for the passing of Alex.

Based on Kompas.com’s observation at the location on Wednesday (25/2/2026) at around 8:00 PM, there were flower arrangements from three former chairmen of the Golkar Party, namely Jusuf Kalla, Aburizal Bakrie, and Akbar Tanjung.

In addition to the flower arrangements, several figures also came to pay their respects, including Chairman of the National Police Reform Commission, Jimly Asshiddiqie, former Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Hatta Rajasa, and former Chairman of the Golkar Party, Setya Novanto.

The body of Alex Noerdin will be buried in Palembang, South Sumatra, on Thursday (26/2/2026).

Alex’s son, Dodi, said that his father’s body would be taken to Palembang at around 7:00 AM.

Later, the body will be taken to his house first so that his family and relatives can perform the funeral prayers.

“Tomorrow, it will be taken to Palembang at 7 in the morning and, God willing, it will be taken to the house first, so that the entire family and relatives can perform the funeral prayers,” said Dodi at his residence, which is also the family home.

After that, Alex’s body will also be taken to the Grand Mosque of Palembang to be prayed for together with the local community.

According to Dodi, this was done at the request of the community in Palembang.

“And it will be taken, before being buried, to the Grand Mosque of Palembang, at the request of the people of South Sumatra, so that he can stop by first, to be prayed for together with all the people of the city of Palembang, South Sumatra,” he added.

On behalf of the extended family, Dodi apologised for the deceased’s mistakes. He also prayed that his father would receive the best place in the presence of God Almighty.
