The defendant in the alleged corruption case regarding the revitalisation of the Cinde Market in Palembang, South Sumatra, Alex Noerdin, has passed away. Consequently, the criminal case involving Alex Noerdin has been closed.

The decision was conveyed by the Head of the Attorney General’s Office’s Information Centre, Anang Supriatna, stating that the closure of the case against a suspect or defendant is automatically carried out if the individual dies.

“If the individual dies, the criminal case against them is automatically closed by law,” Anang told reporters on Wednesday (25/2/2026).

However, he assured that the alleged corruption case regarding the Cinde Market, which is currently underway at the Corruption Court of the Class IA Palembang District Court, will continue. This includes the investigation into the state’s losses.

“However, the other aspects will continue in the trial. If there are losses enjoyed by the individual, it will later be handed over to the Asset Recovery Division (JPN) to file a civil lawsuit,” he explained.

Anang mentioned that Alex’s testimony for other defendants can still be read as evidence with the permission of the panel of judges leading the trial.

“In his capacity as a witness, with the permission of the panel of judges, his statement in the investigation report can be read,” he said.
