Alert! Iran and Israel Exchange Bombardments, Explosions Hit Jerusalem

Explosions were reported to have shaken Jerusalem on Monday (8/6/2026), as Israel announced it had intercepted a new wave of Iranian missiles. “Identifying missiles launched from Iran,” the Israel Defense Forces wrote on Telegram, adding, “We are working to intercept the threat.”

An AFP journalist in Jerusalem witnessed at least one interception as residents rushed to shelters across the city. Israel’s emergency services, Magen David Adom, reported that there were no immediate reports of casualties.

Iran has launched several waves of missiles towards Israel since Sunday night, destabilising the fragile ceasefire between the two nations amidst the ongoing Middle East conflict. Israel reportedly launched retaliatory strikes on Monday morning. Additionally, attacks were launched from Yemen towards Israel today, likely originating from the Iran-backed Houthi group.

On Sunday, Iran launched a barrage of missiles following a stern statement by Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who accused the US and Israel of undermining the peace commitments previously agreed upon by both parties. Quoting CNBC International, Ghalibaf stated via a post on the social media platform X that the US naval blockade and violations of agreements related to Lebanon were the reasons for the collapse of the agreed ceasefire.

The Iranian Parliamentary Speaker also issued a warning regarding the status of foreign military assets in the Middle East due to military activities in Lebanon and the ongoing maritime blockade by the US fleet. Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued an official statement to The New York Times regarding the nature of the existing peace agreement, describing the recent strikes as “retaliatory attacks” that remain within the scope of the agreement.
