Aldi Taher Says He Wants to Join Demokrat, Is It True?

Aldi Taher’s statement was known through an Instagram post by Merry Riana, special staff to the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development AHY, viewed on Sunday (3/5/2026). In her statement, Merry mentioned that Aldi Taher spontaneously expressed his interest in joining Demokrat.

“Today I met again with @alditaher.official. The intention was just to pay respects… but suddenly he spontaneously wanted to join Demokrat. It turns out that from long ago, Aldi’s mother’s prayers and wishes were for Aldi to meet and learn from her favourite political figure: Mas AHY @agusyudhoyono,” Merry said in her post.

From the video shared by Merry, Aldi expressed his desire to join the Demokrat Party. AHY appeared to help Aldi put on the Light Blue Project vest.

“In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, Aldi Taher becomes a member of Demokrat. All Demokrat belong to Allah,” Aldi said in the video post.

Merry Riana, who recorded the moment, welcomed it positively. She said Aldi has officially become part of the party.

“It’s official. Extraordinary, it’s official, now you’re blue,” said Merry Riana.

When contacted separately, the Head of the Democratic Party’s Strategic Communication Agency (Bakomstra), Herzaky Mahendra Putra, said Aldi Taher’s statement occurred during the inauguration of the Biru Muda community. He said Aldi did express interest in joining the party.

“Yes, that was at the Democrat event yesterday. The inauguration of the Biru Muda community, the youth of Demokrat,” said Herzaky to reporters on Sunday (3/5/2026).

He said Aldi Taher was present to fill the event. Aldi’s statement was directly conveyed to the Demokrat Chairman AHY.

“Bang Aldi Taher was present to participate in the event. Then, during the gathering with Chairman AHY in the VIP room, he himself said, ‘Aldi Taher joins Demokrat. Aldi Taher is a member of Demokrat.’ Then, he put on the vest,” he said.

Demokrat welcomes every party interested in participating in the party. However, he leaves the official announcement regarding the plan to Aldi Taher.

“What it means, please ask Bang Aldi Taher directly. We certainly welcome it very much, especially since he is a public role model who is extremely humble. He also has good relations with our cadres, including with our Chairman, Mas AHY,” said Herzaky.

“For the official part, we’ll wait from Bang Aldi, okay. Yesterday was actually just an internal and limited moment,” he added.

Aldi Taher is known to have a track record in politics. He once joined PKS, PBB, and most recently known as a cadre of Perindo.

Aldi even ran as a legislative candidate for DPR RI in Electoral District VII West Java in the 2024 Election from the Perindo Party. However, he failed to enter Senayan because his party did not meet the 4% parliamentary threshold.
