Alcohol is bad for our youth
Alcohol is bad for our youth
From Kompas
The provincial decree on alcoholic beverages was clearly
issued to induce taxes from their sale, despite the risk of
destroying our youth. Maybe we should remind ourselves of the
fatal incident in which an high-ranking Army officer lost his
life in a fight with a few drunkards and of the fact that rape
and various other crimes committed under the influence of alcohol
are on the upswing.
What good were the raids on establishments selling alcohol,
after the death of the Army officer sometime ago? Why put up
banners proclaiming "Police are ready to fight violence, gambling
and alcohol" on every street corner? Is it not enough that
alcohol has claimed a number of victims in this country?
Is there any guarantee that the ruling is going to make those
who drink alcoholic beverages think twice before making a
purchase? Is there a possibility that current prices for
alcoholic beverages will discourage people from buying? And most
important of all, is there any guarantee that the alcohol ruling
is not going to be manipulated by irresponsible persons who are
immune from the law, since they enjoy protection from people in
high positions?
It might be best to simply abolish the alcohol ruling.
