Alcatel's new handsets

fJAKARTA (JP): Alcatel Telecom, a subsidiary of French giant Alcatel Alsthom, will launch its new series of Global System for Mobile (GSM) terminals, the HC-1000, later this month.

An executive of PT Gematel Citranusa, a private firm which will handle Alcatel handset distribution, Alie Cendrawan, said here yesterday that the HC-1000 series was the improved version of the H-800 launched in Indonesia June last year.

In addition to the new HC-1000, there are several other Alcatel handset types available in Indonesia, including the HC- 400, HC-600 and HC-800 distributed by PT Sedaya Multi Investama, an affiliate of the Astra Group.

According to Alie, the new HC-1000 terminals offer unique features, setting the products apart from their competitors.

He said that his company expected within a one-year period to gain a 5-percent share in the country's digital cellular handset market currently controlled by Ericsson of Sweden, Siemens of Germany, Motorola of the United States and Nokia of Finland.

The HC-1000 dimension is 130 millimeters in height, 59 mm in length and 36 mm in width, while its weight is 215 grams. Talk- time and standby are 180 minutes and 31 hours, respectively. (icn)
