Albert misses Golden Gloves

SEMARANG (JP): Veteran boxer Albert Papilaya missed the light heavyweight semifinals match of the Golden Gloves championships on Tuesday because he had to attend the Police Staff and Leadership School (Sespimpol) in Bandung.

Albert works as a police officer during the day and was required at the school in order to be given promotion in the force. His absence enabled Dedy Wikaso of West Java to cruise through to the final bout.

In the lightweight semifinals, Yosia Pujiono of Central Java outclassed Hendra Novisa of North Sumatra 7-1 to meet David Iskewar of Jakarta. David achieved a 5-4 victory over Marwan Muling of Aceh.

Meanwhile, Deddy Chandra of North Sumatra had a 5-4 victory over Melky Lelemboto of North Sulawesi in the flyweight semifinal. In the final, Deddy will face Suwardoyo of Central Java who beat Karela Muskanan of East Nusa Tenggara 5-4.

Bonik Saweno of North Sulawesi dominated his light flyweight semifinal by achieving a 13-1 victory over Denny Hitariun of East Nusa Tenggara. In the final, Bonik will challenge M. Rusli of South Sulawesi who defeated Abudanta of Central Java 23-29.

In the featherweight semifinals, Gusti Roman of West Java defeated B. Simorangkir of North Sumatra, 7-2. (har)
