Albania Seeks Skilled Workers from Indonesia
Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI), Mukhtarudin, received an official visit from a delegation of the Government of the Republic of Albania led by Minister of Economy and Innovation Delina Ibrahimaj at the P2MI Ministry office in Jakarta on Thursday, 30 July 2026. During the meeting, the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the placement and protection of migrant workers as a strategic step to strengthen bilateral relations in the field of employment. The Albanian delegation included Head of the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in the Republic of Indonesia Nikson Ballço, Deputy Minister of Economy and Innovation Dr. Olta Manjani, and Embassy Secretary Officer Sarah Widodo. Minister Mukhtarudin was accompanied by Secretary General of the P2MI Ministry, Commissioner General of Police Dwiyono. Minister Mukhtarudin stated that the signing of the MoU was a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to Albania, where he previously met with the President and Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania to discuss strengthening cooperation between the two countries. ‘Today’s meeting is actually a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto’s previous visit to Albania. Today is marked by the signing of an MoU between Indonesia and the Republic of Albania in order to strengthen synergy in employment relations, particularly strengthening the protection of Indonesian migrant workers who will later be placed in Albania,’ said Mukhtarudin. The Minister expressed his appreciation for the visit of the Albanian Minister of Economy and Innovation and her delegation to Indonesia, noting that the meeting was an important momentum to further strengthen the friendship between the two countries, which has been built on the basis of mutual respect, mutual trust, and a spirit of mutually beneficial partnership. ‘We welcome and give the highest appreciation to Her Excellency the Minister of Economy and Innovation of the Republic of Albania and the entire delegation. We appreciate the Albanian Government’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Indonesia, particularly through the development of cooperation in the placement and protection of migrant workers,’ Mukhtarudin explained. The Minister emphasised that the cooperation is in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive for the Ministry to provide maximum protection for Indonesian migrant workers from pre-departure, during employment, until their return to Indonesia. Furthermore, the government is continuing to shift the paradigm of migrant worker placement from low-skill to medium-high skilled workers, so that Indonesian workers have higher competitiveness in the international labour market. ‘Albania is one of the destination countries for the placement of Indonesian migrant workers in the skilled workers category, both in the formal sector and as professionals,’ the Minister concluded.
