Alarming! Russia Launches ‘Rain’ of Missiles, Explosions Erupt Across Ukraine

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - A series of powerful explosions shook various regions of Ukraine on Thursday morning (26/2/2026) local time. The attacks occurred shortly after security authorities issued warnings in the capital, Kyiv.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported the presence of high-speed targets heading towards Kyiv just before the Head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, confirmed that Russia was attacking the city. It was reported that attack drones and ballistic missiles were “raining” down on the city.

“Air defenses are operating,” Tkachenko said via his official channel on the Telegram application.

“Stay in shelters until the alert ends!” he added, as reported by AFP.

However, this round of Russian military aggression was not limited to the capital region. The attacks also targeted several other strategic points across the country.

The Mayor of Kharkiv, Igor Terekhov, reported that two explosions were heard in the northeastern region. It was reported that Russian Shahed drones targeted residential areas.

He warned residents to stay in shelters due to the threat of drones and missiles flying towards the city center. Shortly after, Terekhov reported that a combined air attack hit the Shevchenkivsky and Kyivsky districts.

Meanwhile, in the southeastern region, the Head of the Zaporizhzhia Region, Ivan Fedorov, confirmed that the city was also under heavy attack. Fedorov reported several explosions and noted that at least one person was injured as a result of the incident.

A similar situation occurred in Kryvyi Rig, where the Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Administration, Oleksandr Ganzha, stated that the Russian attack had injured an 89-year-old man. The attack triggered a large fire that damaged a high-rise building in the area.

This series of attacks adds to the list of overnight bombings that Ukraine has faced in recent months. Russia continues to target major cities with missiles and drones amid extreme winter conditions.

It should be noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin launched this war four years ago, claiming it was to protect Russian-speaking groups in eastern Ukraine, who he said were being severely persecuted by Kyiv. In addition, this was done to prevent Ukraine from abandoning its plans to join NATO.

The United States (US) is currently working hard to end the conflict. Washington is known to be planning to meet with a delegation from Moscow in Geneva in the near future.

The war has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives. The fighting has destroyed much of the territory, especially in eastern and southern Ukraine.
