Al Falah Ploso Islamic Boarding School Declares Start of Ramadan as 19 February 2026
The Al Falah Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes) in Ploso, Kediri, East Java, has declared that 1 Ramadan 1447 Hijriah falls on Thursday, 19 February 2026.
The determination was made based on hisab calculations regarding the position of the crescent moon (hilal).
The announcement concerning the start of Ramadan was conveyed by one of the boarding school’s administrators through a video uploaded to the Instagram account @nderekpusat_official.
“Based on the calculations of the falakiyah committee of Al Falah Islamic Boarding School, Ploso, Kediri, we announce that the beginning of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah falls on Thursday, 19 February 2026,” said one of the administrators on Tuesday, 17 February 2026.
He explained that the crescent moon was recorded at a height of 11 degrees 57 minutes. This figure was deemed to have met the criteria for determining the start of Ramadan.
Meanwhile, the conjunction (ijtima) marking the end of the month of Sha’ban occurred on Tuesday, 17 February 2026 at 17:52 Western Indonesian Time (WIB), which served as the basis for the astronomical calculations used in the hisab method.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) held an Isbat session to officially determine 1 Ramadan 1447 Hijriah on Tuesday, 17 February 2026.
According to information from the ministry’s official Instagram account, the Isbat session was held at Hotel Borobudur in Central Jakarta. The session was divided into three parts.
First, a seminar on the position of the crescent moon at 16:30 WIB. Second, the conduct of the Isbat session at 18:30 WIB. Third, a press conference announcing the determination of 1 Ramadan 1447 Hijriah at 19:05 WIB.
All stages of the Isbat session were held openly and could be viewed via the YouTube accounts of Bimas Islam TV and the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The exception was the actual Isbat session itself, which was held behind closed doors.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Public Relations and Communications Bureau noted that this Isbat session differed from previous ones as it was not held at the ministry’s offices. The reason given was the need to accommodate a larger capacity.
“Referring to a letter from the Director of Islamic Affairs at the Directorate General of Islamic Community Guidance, in order to accommodate capacity requirements, the Isbat Session for the Start of Ramadan 1447 H/2026 M has been relocated from the H.M. Rasjidi Auditorium at the Ministry of Religious Affairs building on Jl. MH Thamrin to Hotel Borobudur, Central Jakarta,” said the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Public Relations and Communications Bureau on Tuesday, 17 February 2026.
