Al-Azhar Grand Mosque Prepares 800 Takjil Boxes Daily During Ramadan
Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Al-Azhar Grand Mosque in South Jakarta is preparing 800 boxes of takjil daily for congregants breaking their fast during Ramadan 1447 Hijriah.
"Every day for 30 days there will be Iftar Jama'i, or communal fast-breaking for the shoimin [those observing the fast]. We are preparing around 700 to 800 boxes each day," said the Head of the Al-Azhar Grand Mosque Office, Tatang Komara, to reporters in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Tatang said the preparations for welcoming Ramadan would enable congregants to worship with greater devotion and gain religious knowledge.
The programme includes free medical treatment and consultations, welfare distributions for orphans, takjil bazaars, and lectures on contemporary issues.
"At every prayer time, we prepare lectures, both thematic and contemporary, addressing current issues," he said.
It is hoped that these services will provide comfort for congregants worshipping at the Al-Azhar Grand Mosque.
Congregants filled the Al-Azhar Grand Mosque on the first night of tarawih prayers on the eve of 1 Ramadan 1447 Hijriah.
The speaker for the evening was the Chairman of the YPI Al-Azhar Foundation, delivering a lecture themed "Greeting the Congregation", whilst the prayer imam was KH Zahrudin Sulthan, Chair of the YPI Al-Azhar Foundation's Da'wah and Social Affairs division.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs held the Isbat Deliberation on Tuesday (17 February) and determined that the beginning of fasting, or 1 Ramadan 1447 Hijriah/2026 CE, would fall on Thursday, 19 February.
The Isbat Deliberation took into account preliminary information based on astronomical calculations (hisab) and field confirmation through the mechanism of new moon observation (rukyatul hilal).
The deliberation was attended by representatives of religious organisations, astronomy experts, House of Representatives Commission VIII members, and representatives of friendly nations.
