Al-Azhar delegates to conduct Ramadan preaching tour across Indonesia
Jakarta – The Minister of Religion, Nasaruddin Umar, received an audience with qaris (Quran reciters) and preachers (dai) graduated from Al-Azhar Asy-Syarif, Egypt, at the Ministry of Religion office in Jakarta. They will conduct a preaching tour (safari dakwah) for several days during Ramadan 1447/2026 in Indonesia.
The presence of these young scholars from the Council of Muslim Jurists (Majelis Hukama Muslimin – MHM) represents part of strengthening strategic cooperation in the mission of moderate and harmonious Islamic preaching.
“I welcome the young scholars who have come here. Egypt is a great nation of Islamic scholars. Many renowned imams, qaris, and religious scholars in Indonesia are graduates of Al-Azhar University,” said Minister Nasaruddin Umar in Jakarta on Monday.
The Minister emphasised that religious relations between Indonesian citizens and Al-Azhar are very strong, as evidenced by the many prominent religious figures in Indonesia who are Al-Azhar University graduates.
The Minister stressed that this placement aims to strengthen the nodes of religious harmony that characterise the Indonesian nation.
“These gentlemen will be distributed and present in various cities that symbolise religious harmony in Indonesia, from South Sulawesi, Sumatra, Nusantara, to Java. Do not worry about not being able to speak Indonesian; God willing, there will be good people there to help you become familiar with the culture,” said Minister Nasaruddin Umar.
“I express my gratitude and wish you well in your duties. Consider Indonesia as your second homeland. I hope the qaris can grow closer to Indonesia’s very rich culture,” he added.
The Council of Muslim Jurists delegation is scheduled to begin their duties at various grand mosques and preaching centres in their assigned regions. The placement in East Kalimantan specifically marks international support in the religious aspect of the region of the Nusantara Capital City (Ibu Kota Nusantara – IKN) as Indonesia’s new centre of civilisation.
