Akulaku Finance Strengthens Customer Personal Data Protection
JAKARTA — The West Java Regional Police’s Cybercrime Directorate is investigating suspected misuse of consumers’ personal data to apply for financing without authorisation. The case began with complaints from several consumers, which PT Akulaku Finance Indonesia followed up with an internal investigation and a report to the police.
The company’s internal investigation found several activities and accounts on a partner platform suspected of misusing consumers’ personal data. Losses in the case are estimated to amount to hundreds of millions of rupiah.
Police are investigating suspected use of artificial intelligence (AI) and face-swapping technology to apply for financing facilities without authorisation. Several people suspected of involvement have been detained. However, police are still examining the methods used and the parties connected to the case.
Meyli Rita Rahmayanti Siburian, Compliance Director at PT Akulaku Finance Indonesia, said the company supports the legal process in accordance with applicable regulations.
“Consumer protection is an integral part of every business process at PT Akulaku Finance Indonesia. We support the ongoing legal process in accordance with applicable regulations, as part of the company’s commitment to maintaining consumer trust and ensuring a safe and responsible digital financial ecosystem,” Meyli said in a written statement on Thursday (15 October 2026).

In response, Akulaku Finance Indonesia said it would strengthen internal monitoring systems, improve the reliability of its technology and enhance risk mitigation to anticipate evolving cybercrime methods.
The company also urged the public to keep personal data, including identity cards (KTP) and other identification documents, confidential. People should avoid sharing data with unknown parties or those without a clear legitimate reason.
