AKP Malaungi Files Appeal Against Police Ethics Council Ruling
Mataram (ANTARA) - Adjunct Commissioner of Police (AKP) Malaungi has filed an appeal against the ruling of the Police Ethics Council at the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police (Polda NTB), which imposed the sanction of Dishonourable Discharge in connection with his involvement in a narcotics case in Bima City.
AKP Malaungi, through his legal counsel Asmuni, confirmed in Mataram on Monday that his client had pursued further legal remedies. "Yes, on the same day as the Police Ethics Council ruling, we declared an appeal," he said.
In response to the appeal filed by AKP Malaungi, Polda NTB has yet to issue an official response.
AKP Malaungi was handed the sanction of Dishonourable Discharge from the Indonesian National Police through a hearing of the Police Professional Ethics Commission held at Polda NTB headquarters on Monday (9 February). The ethics hearing was conducted based on the findings of an investigation by Polda NTB's Narcotics Directorate, which named AKP Malaungi as a suspect in a methamphetamine trafficking case.
Investigators at Polda NTB's Narcotics Directorate designated AKP Malaungi as a suspect under Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, in conjunction with Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code and Law Number 1 of 2026 on Criminal Sentencing Adjustments, or Article 609 paragraph (2) point (a) of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code in conjunction with Law Number 1 of 2026 on Criminal Sentencing Adjustments.
Through the course of the investigation, AKP Malaungi, in his capacity as Head of the Narcotics Unit at Bima City Police, was found to have been in possession of methamphetamine with a net weight of 488 grammes. The evidence was seized during a search of AKP Malaungi's official residence within the Bima City Police barracks compound.
The discovery of the evidence followed AKP Malaungi's admission after undergoing a urine test that returned positive for amphetamine — a compound found in ecstasy and MDMA — as well as methamphetamine.
Police stated that AKP Malaungi's role was first uncovered through the examination of Brigadier Karol, who had been arrested earlier along with his wife and two associates in possession of several dozen grammes of methamphetamine and tens of millions of rupiah in cash believed to be proceeds from drug transactions.
Following the imposition of the Dishonourable Discharge sanction whilst holding suspect status in the narcotics trafficking case, Polda NTB has detained AKP Malaungi in a special holding facility at the Professional and Security Division of Polda NTB.
