Akmil Cadets to Train Sekolah Rakyat Students, PGRI Questions Why Not Teachers
The Chairwoman of the Executive Board of the Indonesian Teachers Association (PB PGRI), Unifah Rosyidi, believes that involving teachers in educational activities at Sekolah Rakyat would be more appropriate than involving parties from outside the teaching profession. She made this statement in response to the assignment of one thousand Military Academy (Akmil) cadets to train students at Sekolah Rakyat (SR).
Although she admitted she had not yet read the details of the policy, Unifah stressed that teachers possess competencies specifically designed to educate and develop the potential of students. “I haven’t read the news yet, but I hope, there are many teachers. If it is done by teachers, it would be far better than by other people whose competence is not necessarily guaranteed,” Unifah said when contacted by Republika on Tuesday (30/6/2026).
According to her, the educational process requires an understanding of pedagogy, which forms the basis of teaching and learning activities. She assessed that the involvement of teachers must remain a priority in the implementation of education because educators have the competence to support children’s development and learning processes.
“They understand pedagogy, but regarding this deployment, I do not know the exact details. Directing teachers to work is certainly better, because they are educated to develop the potential of students,” she said.
