Akbar tells House to work harder
JAKARTA: House of Representatives Speaker Akbar Tandjung swore in new legislator Trimedya Pandjaitan on Monday with a call on the legislative body to improve its performance.
Akbar said the House had a lot of work to do in its remaining two years in office, while public expectations are on the rise.
The House has been under constant scrutiny by the public due to its unsatisfactory performance and the high rate of absenteeism at sessions to deliberate bills, according to Akbar.
The legislative body has made the bills on general elections, political parties and a constitutional commission its top priorities.
Legislator Trimedya, formerly a lawyer, represents the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle. He replaced Gusti Basan Burnia as part of an internal rotation within the party. -- JP
