Akbar says hello to Megawati

JAKARTA: House of Representative Speaker Akbar Tandjung sent
his warm regards to President Megawati Soekarnoputri on Wednesday
through his party members.

Ferry Mursyidan Baldan, a member of the Golkar Party and
secretary general of the party's youth-wing, the Young Renewal
Generation of Indonesia (AMPI), said after meeting Megawati that
the warm regards were simply a courtesy to the President.

"It was nothing special, but as the leader of our
organization, he sent his regards when he found out that we were
going to see the President," Ferry said.

Akbar, the chairman of Golkar, has been sentenced to three
years jail for his involvement in the Rp 40 billion (US$4.5m)
financial scandal involving the National Bureau of Logistics
(Bulog). He has appealed the verdict. --JP
