Akamai Technologies, a global cybersecurity and cloud computing firm, has announced plans to acquire AI security company LayerX. The transaction is valued at approximately US$205 million (around Rp 3.65 trillion at an exchange rate of Rp 17,800 per US dollar).

The acquisition aims to strengthen Akamai’s security capabilities, particularly in monitoring the use of artificial intelligence (AI) within corporate environments.

In its announcement, Akamai stated that LayerX’s technology will extend security protections to browsers, which have become the primary channel for employees accessing company applications, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platforms, and generative AI services.

The deal will also bolster Akamai’s Zero Trust security portfolio and address the growing corporate adoption of AI in daily operations.

According to Akamai, LayerX’s solution enables companies to monitor AI usage directly through browsers without requiring employees to switch to corporate-specific browsers.

The technology provides real-time visibility and control over user activities, including entering prompts into AI chatbots, uploading documents, and accessing AI-based applications.

Akamai highlighted the importance of this approach as browsers are now the main point of interaction between employees and various AI services, including generative AI and AI agents.

Additionally, LayerX’s technology can be implemented without altering existing corporate infrastructure.

Or Eshed, CEO and co-founder of LayerX, said AI security has become one of the biggest challenges in corporate environments.

Following the transaction, the entire LayerX team, including its founders, will join Akamai’s Zero Trust division.

This acquisition marks the fourth Israeli cybersecurity firm Akamai has purchased in the past five years.

The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions.

Akamai anticipates LayerX’s annual recurring revenue (ARR) to reach approximately US$10 million (around Rp 17.8 billion) by the end of 2026.
