Ajit Sing in Cambodia

JAKARTA (JP): The Secretary General of Association of South
East Asian Nations (ASEAN), Ajit Singh, is due to meet with
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen in Phnom Penh on Thursday.

During his four-day visit which begins tomorrow, Ajit Singh is
also scheduled to meet with Foreign Minister Ung Huot.

It is expected that discussions will focus on Cambodia's
formal application for observer status in ASEAN and the recently
expressed intention to accede to the Association's Treaty of
Amity and Cooperation, a pre-requisite for any new member.

During the 1993 ASEAN Ministerial Meetings in Singapore and
the 1994 Meetings in Bangkok, Cambodia was invited as a special
