AJI Palembang Opens Complaints Office for Journalists' Holiday Allowance
Palembang — The Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) in Palembang City has established a service desk for consultation and complaints regarding the Religious Holiday Allowance (THR) to monitor the fulfilment of rights for journalists and media workers in the region.
The chairman of AJI Palembang, Resha, stated on Tuesday in Palembang that the office was opened to receive reports from journalists and media workers who have not received THR, received THR that does not comply with regulations, or have experienced labour rights violations ahead of the religious festival.
“We have opened this complaints office as an effort to protect the rights of journalists and media workers, particularly regarding the fulfilment of THR ahead of Eid al-Fitr,” he said.
He explained that the crisis in the media industry over recent years has created various problems, including those related to labour relations.
Nevertheless, THR as a normative workers’ right must still be fulfilled by media companies in accordance with applicable legal regulations.
“For this reason, we are opening this THR complaints office as an effort to protect the rights of journalists in Palembang and South Sumatra,” he explained.
The implementation of THR payments this year is based on the Circular Letter of the Minister of Labour Number M/3/HK.04.00/III/2026 concerning the Implementation of Religious Holiday Allowance for Workers in Companies in 2026.
The circular stipulates that companies must provide THR to workers in accordance with their length of service and must pay it no later than seven days before Eid al-Fitr. Additionally, companies are prohibited from paying THR in instalments and must pay it in full in accordance with applicable regulations.
AJI Palembang will keep the THR complaints office open until five days before Eid al-Fitr 2026. The identity of complainants will be kept confidential.
Reports can be submitted via the AJI Palembang office contact number 0822-9334-0486 or through an online form that has been provided. Complaints can also be submitted via direct message on the official AJI Palembang Instagram account.
The existence of this office is expected to serve as a safe space for journalists and media workers to lodge complaints regarding THR payment without fear, whilst also encouraging media companies to comply more strictly with labour regulations.
