Aitech Enhances Robust and Proven AI Systems for Space with NVIDIA IGX Thor
Chatsworth, Calif., (ANTARA/PRNewswire) – Aitech, a global leader in rugged embedded computing solutions designed for AI, today announced the integration of NVIDIA’s IGX Thor platform into its S-A2300 COTS AI Supercomputer and future designs. This expansion enhances AI computing capabilities and ushers in a new era of accelerated computing for space missions requiring edge AI. By incorporating IGX Thor, Aitech will deliver space-ready computing systems capable of operating in the most challenging environments.
This significant milestone strengthens Aitech’s position as a top-tier rugged computing expert with over 40 years of experience providing high-performance solutions for critical missions, including supplying one of the first GPGPUs used in space. Aitech now has access to IGX Thor evaluation boards and modules, enabling rapid design, system integration, and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
‘Aitech is at the forefront of the AI revolution, delivering the most powerful, reliable, and future-ready technology,’ said Dan Mor, Customer Solutions Director at Aitech. ‘By integrating IGX Thor into our robust and space-proven AI systems, Aitech is prepared to help deploy advanced AI from Earth-based industrial environments to extreme orbital conditions.’
Expanding LEO Capabilities with the S-A2300 AI COTS Supercomputer
Aitech was an early adopter of NVIDIA’s Jetson AGX Orin platform, creating space-based AI computing solutions for NASA, Sidus Space, and other space pioneers. The S-A2300 COTS AI Supercomputer utilises NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin Industrial system-on-module and is specifically designed for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) missions. The COTS AI Supercomputer combines exceptional AI computing density with radiation resistance and resilience against extreme environmental conditions.
Key features of the S-A2300:
Up to 2,048 CUDA® cores and 64 Tensor cores, delivering up to 248 TOPS for advanced AI workloads.
Two upgradable and highly configurable NVIDIA Deep Learning Accelerator (NVDLA) engines, simplifying integration and improving portability through standardised deep-learning inference acceleration.
An architecture optimised for space applications, enabling real-time image processing, autonomous navigation, climate monitoring, and space debris tracking.
With unmatched AI processing capabilities for space, the S-A2300 enhances operational efficiency and intelligence in orbit. IGX Thor further extends its capabilities with up to 5,581 FP4 TFLOPS of AI compute for real-time inference and 400 GbE connectivity via NVIDIA ConnectX®-7 SmartNIC. The Functional Safety Island (FSI) within the Thor SoC enables safety functions through the IGX software suite, ensuring reliable operation in critical environments.
Accelerating Mission Deployment
With IGX Thor evaluation hardware, Aitech can accelerate the development cycle from concept to validation, significantly speeding up operational readiness for critical space and autonomous missions. Together, IGX Thor and Aitech’s rugged AI platforms form a robust foundation for next-generation space-based intelligence and autonomy.
