Aitech, a global leader in rugged embedded computing systems and AI-based connectivity for defence and space applications, has introduced the U-C6850 10/40GbE, its latest fully managed Ethernet switch/router. The solution is a high-speed, flexible and secure SOSA-aligned Ethernet connectivity product for military and aerospace systems.

By delivering its first SOSA-aligned Ethernet switch/router, Aitech is expanding its portfolio of high-speed connectivity solutions for military and aerospace platforms to support more modular, interoperable and future-ready defence system designs.

“The new SOSA-aligned U-C6850 Ethernet switch provides the high-speed network infrastructure required to connect computing resources, sensors and communications systems, while supporting the Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) architecture that defence customers require,” said Alex Trigoub, product manager at Aitech. “By supporting seamless integration into open architectures, the U-C6850 enables customers to modernise legacy platforms with cutting-edge networking technology, accelerate the integration of new technologies, and reduce lifecycle risk posed by closed systems.”

The U-C6850 is based on an advanced and flexible Ethernet switch and Layer2/Layer3 (L2/L3) packet processor, offering total switching capacity of up to 320 Gbps. Configurations support up to eight 40GbE Ethernet interfaces or 32 10GbE Ethernet interfaces for data-intensive defence applications. The new U-C6850 enables high-speed data exchange among computing systems, sensors and communications networks, supporting high-speed video and data processing with low latency in modern sensor fusion architectures.

In addition to its network performance, the U-C6850 supports SWaP-C optimisation by delivering high bandwidth and high port density with relatively low power consumption. This helps defence contractors and system integrators maximise performance while minimising size, weight, power consumption and lifecycle cost.

The U-C6850 complements the XMC form factor M622 10/40GbE Ethernet switch/router, allowing Aitech customers to choose from two SWaP-C-optimised high-speed connectivity form factors based on the number of Ethernet ports required and the target system architecture: a fully managed XMC-based switch/router or a fully managed SOSA-aligned 3U electronic board.

The new rugged Ethernet switch/router is designed for military and aerospace platforms that require fast and reliable data exchange across distributed mission systems and high-performance computing environments, where high bandwidth and low latency are critical factors. Its SOSA-aligned architecture makes the U-C6850 well suited for technology refresh and modernisation programmes, enabling system integrators to upgrade networking capabilities, sensor processing and mission computing on existing aircraft, ground vehicles and naval platforms while minimising redesign effort.

Key features include total data switching capacity of up to 320 Gbps; configurations supporting eight 40GbE Ethernet interfaces or 32 10GbE Ethernet interfaces; advanced networking capabilities with full support for Layer2 (switching) and Layer3 (routing) standards and protocols; fast boot with all features active; integrated security features; a 3U VPX form factor compliant with the SOSA Technical Standard; low power consumption supporting SWaP-C optimisation; a rugged design optimised for military and aerospace systems; and IEEE 1558v2 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) support for accurate network time synchronisation.

The U-C6850 is now available for mission development. For more information, visit the Aitech website.
