AISMOLI urges electric motorcycle industry to improve product quality

The Indonesian Electric Motorcycle Industry Association (AISMOLI) is encouraging electric motorcycle industry players to improve product quality following the government’s plan to implement an incentive policy for electric motorcycle purchases, which could potentially increase demand for electric vehicles.

AISMOLI PR & Event Executive Riniwaty Sinaga said that the implementation of the incentive policy for electric motorcycle purchases could be a momentum for industry players to increase growth and market reach.

“We advise the industry to build products that are trusted and chosen by consumers because of their value, not solely because of subsidies. Incentives are a market accelerator, not the foundation of industry sustainability,” she said when contacted from Jakarta on Monday.

According to her, the production of quality vehicles and improved after-sales services will help maintain the sustainability of the electric motorcycle market growth.

AISMOLI welcomed the government’s plan to implement an incentive policy for electric motorcycle purchases as early as September 2026.

Riniwaty said that the electric motorcycle industry is ready to face the potential increase in vehicle demand after the implementation of the subsidy policy, because the national electric motorcycle production capacity is currently still far greater than market demand.

“For the industry, the most important thing is policy certainty and consistency, so that consumers do not return to a wait-and-see approach and the industry can plan production and investment better,” she said.

The provision of subsidies for electric motorcycle purchases is part of the government’s efforts to encourage increased use of more environmentally friendly vehicles and support the growth of the domestic automotive industry.

The government implemented an incentive policy for electric motorcycle purchases in 2023-2024, providing a subsidy of Rp7 million for each purchase of an electric motorcycle that met the criteria.

The subsidy value for electric motorcycle purchases to be implemented in 2026 is likely to be smaller than before.

Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita previously raised the idea of providing a subsidy of around Rp5 million for each purchase of an electric motorcycle that meets the requirements.
