JAKARTA – The Indonesian Electric Motorcycle Industry Association (Aismoli) has positively welcomed the government’s plan to provide subsidies for electric vehicles, including Rp 5 million per unit for electric motorcycles.

However, industry players are requesting that the derivative regulations be issued promptly so that the policy can be implemented directly without holding back the market.

Aismoli General Chairman Budi Setiyadi stated that they have conducted intensive communication with several relevant ministries regarding the subsidy scheme.

“From an industry perspective, we are already prepared, but what has not been prepared is the scheme itself,” Budi told Kompas.com on Wednesday (6/5/2026).

According to him, Aismoli proposes that the government revert to the previous subsidy scheme through the SISAPIRa (Electric Two-Wheeled Motor Vehicle Purchase Assistance Information System) programme, which was implemented from 2023 to 2024.

By using the old mechanism, the subsidy distribution process is deemed to be faster without needing to build a new system from scratch.

“We also propose that if possible, because in 2023-2024 it was already done using the SISAPIRa model, so it can run directly,” he said.

Budi also highlighted the potential disruption to sales if the gap between the policy announcement and subsidy implementation is too long.

“We are indeed proposing some views so that it does not take too long from the announcement to execution. Because if after the policy is announced, then the regulations take a while, the impact will be felt by the industry,” he stated.

Therefore, Aismoli hopes that the government will quickly prepare the legal foundation so that the subsidy programme can run without obstacles.

In addition, the association proposes that the subsidy validity period not only extend until 2026 but be prolonged to 2027 to maintain the momentum of growth in electric two-wheelers.
