AISMOLI: Electric Motorcycles Can Serve as Instruments to Reduce Fuel Consumption
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Electric Motorcycle Industry Association (AISMOLI) has stated that electric motorcycles could serve as one of the instruments to reduce fuel oil (BBM) consumption amid rising prices of fossil fuels. “With a two-wheeled vehicle population exceeding 130 million units, increasing by around six million units per year, the potential impact on reducing BBM consumption is very significant,” said AISMOLI’s Public Relations & Event Executive Riniwaty Sinaga when contacted from Jakarta on Thursday. Rini conveyed that electric motorcycles could be part of the solution to reduce dependence on BBM. “Electric motorcycles are the most relevant and scalable instrument to reduce national dependence on BBM in line with the presidential Asta Cita vision on aspects of energy independence and efficiency,” she said. She explained that rising BBM prices could drive increased adoption of more environmentally friendly electric vehicles if supported by appropriate policies. “However, this momentum will only be effective if backed by targeted and swiftly executed policy commitments. Without it, the public tends to delay purchasing decisions, which contradicts the goal of accelerating the transition to zero-emission vehicles,” she elaborated. Rini noted that the issuance of Vehicle Type Approval Registration Certificates (SRUT) for electric motorcycles in January and February 2026 rose to 3,565 and 3,066 respectively, from 2,103 and 2,158 in January and February 2025. SRUT data reflects the number of vehicles that have passed type testing and are ready for market, providing an indication of the number of vehicles prepared for sale. “SRUT is handled by APM (Brand Holding Agents) when there are sales or indications of sales (bookings),” she said. She added that companies prepare vehicle supplies based on potential consumer demand.
