AISMOLI awaits regulation on electric motorcycle purchase incentives
The Indonesian Electric Motorcycle Industry Association (AISMOLI) is waiting for government regulation on the provision of incentives for electric motorcycle purchases, which is planned to take effect at the earliest in September 2026.
“AISMOLI welcomes the government’s plan to reintroduce electric motorcycle incentives starting September 2026,” said AISMOLI PR & Event Executive Riniwaty Sinaga when contacted from Jakarta on Monday.
“However, we are still waiting for official regulation, particularly regarding the mechanism, recipient criteria, and programme period,” she said.
She emphasised the importance of certainty and consistency in incentive policy for industry players.
“For industry, the most important thing is policy certainty and consistency, so that consumers do not return to a wait-and-see approach and industry can plan production and investment better,” she explained.
Riniwaty said that industry players are in principle ready to face an increase in electric motorcycle demand if the government implements the incentive policy starting September 2026.
“In principle, industry is ready. National electric motorcycle production capacity is currently even far greater than market demand,” she said.
In addition, the association reminded industry players to prepare vehicles that consumers can rely on.
“We advise that industry must build products that are trusted and chosen by consumers because of their value, not solely because of subsidies. Incentives are a market accelerator, not the foundation of industry sustainability,” said Riniwaty.
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said on Tuesday (18/8) that the subsidy policy for electric motorcycle purchases could take effect at the earliest in September 2026.
Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita previously raised the idea of providing a subsidy of Rp5 million for electric motorcycle purchases.
The provision of incentives for electric motorcycle purchases is part of the government’s efforts to increase the use of more environmentally friendly vehicles and reduce the use of fuel oil.
