Airport Train Strikes Truck at Poris Crossing, Police Implement Traffic Diversions
The Tangerang City Metropolitan Police implemented traffic management measures following a collision between Soekarno-Hatta Airport Train No. 805-806A and a trailer truck at the Poris Station level crossing in Batuceper subdistrict, Tangerang City, on Friday (20 February) at approximately 06.05 local time.
As a result of the incident, Jalan Maulana Hasanudin was temporarily closed to all vehicles as the evacuation of the train carriages and the vehicle involved was still under way.
Observations at the scene showed that as of Friday afternoon, the evacuation process was continuing with the use of two cranes, necessitating the closure of the railway crossing.
Tangerang City Metropolitan Police Chief Commissioner Muhammad Jauhari said his force immediately deployed personnel to manage traffic flow at several points.
"Our officers have implemented traffic diversions to prevent congestion from worsening, given that Jalan Maulana Hasanudin cannot be used for the time being," Jauhari said in a statement.
Police diverted vehicles travelling from the direction of Jakarta (Jalan Daan Mogot) heading towards Cipondoh via Jalan Maulana Hasanudin to the Ampera junction, then directed them along Jalan Jenderal Sudirman and onwards to Jalan KH Hasyim Ashari.
Meanwhile, vehicles from the direction of Cipondoh (Jalan KH Hasyim Ashari) heading towards Jalan Daan Mogot, Batuceper and Jakarta were rerouted via Jalan Benteng Betawi to Jalan Jenderal Sudirman.
Vehicles from Jalan Benteng Betawi heading towards Jakarta via Jalan Maulana Hasanudin were directed through Jalan KH Hasyim Ashari, the Gondrong traffic lights, Jalan H Mansyur, and on to Jalan KH Ahmad Dahlan.
Jauhari urged the public to follow the directions of officers on the ground and to use alternative routes to avoid congestion.
"We ask the public to remain orderly and follow the instructions of officers until the evacuation process is complete and the route is declared safe," he said.
The accident occurred when the airport train operating on the Jakarta–Soekarno-Hatta International Airport route struck a trailer truck believed to have become stuck at the level crossing. There were no fatalities in the incident, although both road traffic and train services were temporarily disrupted.
