Airport Train Project to be Taken Over by Government
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Transportation Minister Jusman Syafii Djamal said the Soekarno-Hatta Airport railway construction project will be taken over by the government if the second tender is unsuccessful. So far, he said, only one company has submitted the tender document. “If there are no interested companies, the government will take over the project,” he said last week.
According to Jusman, the airport railway project should have begun this year. His department, he said, is discussing possibilities of taking over the project with the Finance Minister. The discussion will also involve the direct appointment of investors to manage the airport train.
The government had previously offered a 30-year concession of airport railway management to investors. The concession could be extended for another 20 years. The 32.7 kilometer railway will connect Soekarno-Hatta Airport with Manggarai Station in South Jakarta. So far, PT Railink is the only company that has expressed its interest in building the railway.
