Commuter rail services on the Tangerang route were disrupted following an incident in which a Soekarno-Hatta Airport train collided with a truck at level crossing JPL 21 on the Rawa Buaya–Batuceper line on Friday (20 February) at approximately 06.05 Western Indonesian Time.

The collision caused the airport train to derail at a point not far from Poris Station in Batuceper District, Tangerang City, Banten. Photographs circulating on social media showed the train carriages off the rails.

KAI Commuter Vice President of Corporate Secretary Karina Amanda said the company was focused on evacuating all passengers of Commuter Line Basoetta service number 806, bound for Soekarno-Hatta Airport, as well as crew members.

“There were no casualties in this incident; everyone is safe and has been evacuated,” she said in a written statement.

Karina explained that relevant personnel had begun the process of recovering the train carriages to expedite the response. She added that KAI Commuter was coordinating with KAI Regional Operations 1 Jakarta by dispatching a rescue train to the scene.

As a result of the incident, commuter rail services on the Tangerang route were only operating as far as Rawa Buaya Station, whilst airport train services were limited to Batuceper Station.

“Due to this incident, the Tangerang Commuter Line is currently only serving the route up to Rawa Buaya Station before returning to Duri Station. Meanwhile, the Commuter Line Basoetta service from the airport direction is only operating as far as Batuceper Station before returning to Soekarno-Hatta Airport,” Karina said.

In the interim, she advised prospective Commuter Line Basoetta passengers heading to the airport to seek alternative transport options.

“Commuter Line Basoetta passengers who have already purchased tickets may obtain a full 100 per cent refund at Commuter Line Basoetta stopping stations,” she said.

KAI Commuter extended its apologies for the disruption and inconvenience caused by the morning’s incident, which affected operations on both the Commuter Line Basoetta and the Duri–Tangerang Commuter Line.

“In response to this incident, we have implemented operational pattern adjustments and cancellations of Commuter Line services,” she said.
