Airport toll road sinking faster

JAKARTA (JP): The Sediatmo toll road, which heads out to the Soekarno-Hatta airport, has sunk 80 centimeters, more than the 25 cm anticipated, an official of the city administration says.

Dargono Danuprawiro, head of the Jakarta public works office, said on Wednesday that the subsidence will possibly continue and worsen uncontrollably.

Due to the deep level of subsidence, the toll road which is the main gate for international guests is frequently flooded during the rainy season, he said.

Raising the road level with asphalt is impossible because of the predicted worsening of the condition, he said, adding that if the situation is left unheeded the road will subside an extra three to four meters over the next 30 years. (hhr)
