Airport Terminals Damaged by NTT Earthquake, 12 Flights Cancelled
Twelve Wings Air flights have been cancelled since the earthquake struck the Flores region of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Saturday (15/8). The cancellations were made following damage to passenger terminals at several airports caused by the earthquake. In addition, aftershocks are still being monitored.
General Manager of Lion Air (Wings Air Group) Kupang, Rinus Zebua, said the flight cancellations continued until Sunday (16/8). “That’s right, cancelled,” Rinus told Media Indonesia.
According to Rinus, the runways and instrument equipment for take-off and landing processes at the affected airports remain in good condition. However, the passenger terminals at Ruteng, Ende, and Bajawa airports are still experiencing damage.
“The runways and take-off and landing instrument equipment are still in good condition, but the passenger terminals at Ruteng, Ende, and Bajawa airports are currently still damaged. In addition, we are monitoring the ongoing aftershocks,” he said.
The 12 flights affected by the cancellations cover a number of routes connecting Labuan Bajo, Ende, Bajawa, Ruteng, and Kupang. Affected routes include Labuan Bajo-Ende, Labuan Bajo-Bajawa, Ruteng-Kupang, Kupang-Ruteng, Ende-Labuan Bajo, Ende-Kupang, Bajawa-Labuan Bajo, Bajawa-Kupang, Kupang-Bajawa, and Kupang-Ende, including flights on the same routes with different schedules.
Cancellations have been made since the beginning of the earthquake as a safety measure amid the affected airport conditions and ongoing aftershocks. Passengers whose flights were cancelled can apply for ticket refunds.
“Tickets can be refunded by reporting the ticket to each travel agent,” said Rinus.
Joint teams and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) remain on standby to sweep locations for further data collection and verification. For referral hospitals from Nagekeo Regency, Borong Regional Hospital is available as the nearest at 2 hours’ travel time, and Komodo Regional Hospital at 4 hours’ travel time.
Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin) stressed that the safety of residents is the top priority following the M7.7 earthquake in NTT. The government has ensured integrated assistance and recovery.
Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo has deployed heavy equipment and prioritised the restoration of clean water and road access following the M7.7 earthquake in Flores, NTT.
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) has ensured the acceleration of evacuation, aid distribution, and restoration of road access and clean water services following the earthquake disaster in NTT.
The Geological Agency reported that the M7.7 earthquake in Flores triggered landslides on Mount Ebulobo, Kelimutu, and Anak Ranakah. Volcanic activity is still monitored as normal.
Pertamina Patra Niaga is restoring operations at 32 petrol stations in Flores following the earthquake on 15 August 2026. Updates on fuel, LPG, and kerosene distribution in NTT are being monitored.
State electricity company PT PLN (Persero) has placed 45,000 personnel and 51.6 GW of capacity on standby for the 81st Independence Day celebrations, while accelerating electricity restoration following the earthquake in Flores, NTT.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported 235 aftershocks following the M7.7 earthquake in Flores, NTT. Analysis of the Flores Back Arc Thrust fault and tsunami height data is being reviewed.
