Airport arrivals to pay new taxi charge

JAKARTA (JP): The state airport management company PT Angkasa
Pura II announced on Thursday that it would set additional fare
charges for members of the public catching taxis at Soekarno-
Hatta airport.

The company's director of operations, Mulyono, explained that
provision for the new charges was contained in a decree issued by
the director general of land transportation on March 19 last
year.

Three zones have been designated according to their distance
from the airport.

"The fees for passengers traveling the farthest distances will
be less than those imposed on passengers traveling medium and
short distances," Mulyono said, as quoted by Antara.

Passengers traveling only as far as the first zone will be
obliged to pay drivers a waiting fee of Rp 10,500, he said.

Zone I includes all destinations in Batuceper, Kalideres,
Sepatan, Teluk Naga, Cipondoh and Pantai Indah Kapuk districts in
Tangerang and Cengkareng, Grogol and Kebon Jeruk in West Jakarta.

Passengers traveling into Zone II will be liable for a
surcharge of Rp 9,000.

Zone II includes Penjaringan, Pademangan, Tanjung Priok,
Kemayoran, Cempaka Putih, Senen, Gambir, Tambora, Tanah Abang,
Matraman, Jatinegara, Tebet, Mampang, Kebayoran Baru, Kebayoran
Lama, Cileduk, Pondok Aren and Bumi Serpong Damai.

Passengers to Zone III, which includes Koja, Kelapa Gading, Cilincing,
Pulogadung, Cakung, Duren Sawit, Pondok Gede, Makasar, Jati Asih,
Kramat Jati, Pasar Minggu, Pasar Rebo, Ciracas, Cipayung, Limo,
Jati Sampurna, Cilandak, Jagakarsa, Ciputat, Pamulang, Sawangan,
Bekasi, Depok and Bogor, will have to pay an extra Rp 7,500.

Mulyono said that representatives of all airport taxi
companies had agreed to the changes, which he said were designed
to compensate taxi drivers for the time they spent waiting for
passengers at the airport.

"The decree is expected to come into effect as soon as
possible," he said, adding that he hoped the public would
understand the changes had been made to improve the taxi service
at the airport. (hhr)
