AirNav Indonesia has ensured full readiness of flight navigation services to support the smooth operation and safety of commercial aviation during the 2026 Lebaran transport period (1447 H). Flight traffic during this period is projected to increase approximately 4.5% compared to the previous year.

The Director of Operations at AirNav Indonesia, Setio Anggoro, stated that the anticipated increase in flight movements during the holiday season has been addressed through various operational readiness measures across all flight navigation service units.

“AirNav Indonesia has prepared all operational aspects to ensure flight navigation services during the Lebaran transport period run safely, smoothly, and efficiently. This readiness encompasses operational personnel, flight navigation facilities, and strengthened coordination with all aviation stakeholders,” explained Setio during a press conference on AirNav Indonesia’s flight navigation service readiness for the 2026 Lebaran transport period on Monday (16 March) in Jakarta.

To support optimal air traffic management, AirNav Indonesia operates the Indonesia Network Management Centre (INMC) as the national hub for orchestrating flight navigation services, monitoring and coordinating aviation operations in real time across all Indonesian airspace.

Setio explained that AirNav Indonesia also ensures operational support readiness encompassing more than 2,800 communication, navigation, surveillance, and ATC system facilities.

“For ATC officers alone, there are more than 1,700 personnel in charge during this period across all AirNav Indonesia service offices,” he said.

To strengthen operational support, AirNav has also deployed more than 1,000 Air Traffic Service Engineers to ensure the readiness and reliability of facility equipment.

“Additionally, we have also stationed at least 160 Aeronautical Information Service Officers, as well as more than 490 Air Communication Officers,” Setio added.

Furthermore, the readiness of flight navigation procedures has been ensured at hundreds of airports across Indonesia, including departure procedures (Standard Instrument Departure/SID), arrival procedures (Standard Terminal Arrival Route/STAR), and approach procedures (Initial Approach Procedures/IAP) to maintain efficiency and operational safety.

Setio also emphasised that the increase in flight traffic during the Lebaran period is accompanied by heightened vigilance against various potential aviation safety risks.

“We continue to heighten awareness of various potential hazards during the Lebaran period, such as extreme weather, volcanic ash, wayward balloons, potential bird strikes, and airport or airline operational disruptions. All operational personnel are also reminded to increase compliance with procedures and coordination between units to maintain flight safety,” he said.

He also highlighted the important role of the public in maintaining aviation safety, particularly regarding the potential for wayward balloons that often appear during the Lebaran period. Two areas that have frequently drawn attention due to balloon activities are Wonosobo Regency and Pekalongan City in Central Java. However, several other areas have recently indicated such activities.

“AirNav Indonesia continues to conduct safety campaigns with the public about the dangers of wayward balloons to aviation through various media. However, this issue cannot be resolved by AirNav alone. We hope that collective awareness continues to increase so that Indonesian airspace remains safe for all aviation,” Setio continued.

With infrastructure readiness, personnel deployment, and cross-stakeholder coordination in place, AirNav Indonesia is optimistic that flight navigation services during the 2026 Lebaran transport period will run safely, smoothly, and efficiently, allowing the public to travel home for the holidays with comfort.
