Tangerang - Perum Lembaga Penyelenggara Pelayanan Navigasi Penerbangan Indonesia (LPPNPI) or AirNav Indonesia has been appointed as Chairperson of the APAC Project 30/10 Task Force by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to lead the implementation of airspace efficiency improvements in the Asia-Pacific region.

“This appointment reflects the trust of countries in the region in Indonesia’s capacity to lead cross-border coordination in the aviation navigation sector,” said Operations Director Setio Anggoro in a written statement received in Tangerang on Monday.

He stated that AirNav’s appointment to lead the implementation of airspace efficiency improvements was nominated by Malaysia and fully supported by other ICAO Asia-Pacific members, such as Mongolia, Pakistan, Singapore, and Thailand.

“This momentum further affirms international trust in Indonesia’s capacity to support the implementation of air navigation transformation, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region,” he said.

For information, the APAC Project 30/10 Task Force is part of the implementation of Project 30/10, a global ICAO initiative aimed at improving airspace management efficiency through the optimisation of aircraft separation minima, while still prioritising safety aspects.

Setio explained that in recent decades, aviation capacity increases have generally relied on the construction of physical infrastructure such as airports and runways. Through Project 30/10, this approach is shifting towards system optimisation.

“In the aviation industry, operational efficiency is a key factor in maintaining performance and competitiveness,” he said.

According to him, the implementation of policies in the Asia-Pacific region faces its own challenges, given the differences in technology readiness levels, regulations, and airspace characteristics between countries.

“The implementation of this programme requires a collaborative approach between countries with varying levels of readiness. The focus is on ensuring efficiency can be achieved without reducing safety aspects,” he explained.

He also added that operational efficiency and the sustainability agenda are among ICAO’s main focuses at present. Airspace optimisation to support more efficient flight management is believed to make a significant contribution to efforts to improve environmental performance in the aviation sector.

In this regard, in addition to being elected as the leader in the implementation of the strategic project, AirNav Indonesia has also been appointed to host the inaugural meeting of the APAC Project 30/10 Task Force in Tangerang, Banten, from 16 to 18 June 2026.

“In the report on the Kick Off Meeting of the APAC Project 30/10 Task Force (AP30-10/TF/1) that it published, the ICAO Secretariat expressed appreciation to AirNav Indonesia for its willingness to host the meeting,” he stated.

He said that in addition to discussing several important issues, the meeting agenda also schedules a visit for participants to the Jakarta Air Traffic Control Centre (JATSC) managed by AirNav Indonesia.

“Coincidentally, AirNav Indonesia has just implemented a new system, namely ATMAS, to improve the quality of the national navigation service system. They want to see this,” he said.
