AirNav: Airport closures a mitigation step for safety

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Perum Lembaga Penyelenggara Pelayanan Navigasi Penerbangan Indonesia (LPPNPI), or AirNav Indonesia, has stated that the temporary closure of affected airports is a mitigation step to ensure aviation safety following the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK).

“This is a mitigation measure to support aviation safety, taking into account the distribution of volcanic ash in the airspace,” said Hermana Soegijantoro, EVP of Corporate Secretary at AirNav Indonesia, in an official statement in Jakarta on Monday.

AirNav Indonesia continues to monitor developments in airspace conditions and the spread of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau.

“Aeronautical information will continue to be updated in line with actual conditions and aviation safety information,” he said.

AirNav Indonesia is also coordinating continuously with aviation stakeholders to ensure that information on airspace conditions and air navigation services is communicated in a timely manner.

The company confirmed that six airports have been closed due to the spread of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau, in order to safeguard the safety of flight operations.

“AirNav has again updated aeronautical information regarding the operational status of a number of airports affected by the volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau,” he said.

The update was made taking into account the spread of volcanic ash, which according to monitoring by the BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency) has extended to Banten, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Lampung and Bengkulu, as well as the ongoing volcanic activity of Mount Anak Krakatau, which remains at Level III (Alert).

Based on the updated Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), six airports remain closed due to the volcanic ash, with closures estimated to last until 08.59 WIB on 7 September 2026. They are: first, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK), closed from 23.20 WIB on 6 September until an estimated 08.59 WIB on 7 September.

Second, Halim Perdanakusuma Airport (HLP), closed from 23.26 WIB on 6 September until an estimated 08.59 WIB on 7 September. Third, Radin Inten II Airport in Lampung (TKG), closed from 23.23 WIB on 6 September until an estimated 08.59 WIB on 7 September.

Fourth, Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung (BDO), closed from 23.31 WIB on 6 September until an estimated 08.59 WIB on 7 September; fifth, Budiarto Airport in Curug (RTO), closed from 23.29 WIB on 6 September until an estimated 08.59 WIB on 7 September.

Sixth, Pondok Cabe Airport (PCB), closed from 23.36 WIB on 6 September until an estimated 08.59 WIB on 7 September.
