Airline Ticket Prices High for Eid Holiday Travel; Transport Minister to Review Online Travel Agents
Airfares during the Eid holiday exodus in 2026 are still considered expensive. In response, Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated he would review online travel agents (OTAs).
“There are several matters we may evaluate, particularly regarding online travel agents,” said Dudy at Terminal 1C of Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Monday 16 March 2026.
Previously, the government had provided stimulus measures, including tax reductions and flight fee adjustments, which are estimated to lower ticket prices by 17–18 per cent.
“We will discuss this with relevant stakeholders, including airlines and tourism authorities overseeing travel agencies,” said Dudy.
High ticket prices are also influenced by purchase timing and seat availability. Nevertheless, some members of the public have already enjoyed discounts of up to 20 per cent.
“In its implementation, what I observed, the public can enjoy discounts of up to 20 per cent,” said Dudy.
On Tuesday 17 March 2026 morning, monitoring of airfares to several major cities ahead of Eid on booking platforms Tiket.com and Traveloka showed mixed pricing.
For the Jakarta to Yogyakarta route, economy-class fares began at around 800,000 rupiah on Tiket.com, whilst business-class tickets started from approximately 2.6 million rupiah.
For reverse routes, airfares on the same date were observed to be cheaper, starting from 1 million rupiah.
On the Jakarta to Makassar route, economy-class fares on Traveloka booking platform began at 1.5 million rupiah, whilst business-class tickets started from 4.1 million rupiah.
For the reverse route, economy-class fares for direct flights from Makassar to Jakarta on both Traveloka and Tiket.com were observed to be cheaper, beginning at 1 million rupiah.
