Airline executives to meet in Manila
MANILA: Asia's top airline executives will address security
concerns and uncertainty due to terrorism at a regional aviation
meeting in the Philippines next week, the Association of Asia
Pacific Airlines (AAPA) said Tuesday.
AAPA director Richard Stirland said the meeting, to be held in
the central city of Cebu, will include discussions on the
sector's recovery following the terror attacks.
"The region's aviation sector has certainly outpaced the rest
of the world in recovering from last year's disaster," Stirland
said in a statement. "Now we are faced with other challenges
which we hope to get through with proper planning."
Philippine Airlines (PAL) president Avelino Zapanta noted this
year's meeting comes at a time when there is a great turmoil in
the global airline industry.
"This is an opportune time to take stock and discuss issues
confronting us," Zapanta said. "Recovery beckons, but uncertainty
lingers."
