Airlangga: WFH policy reduces fuel consumption by up to 9%

Economic Coordination Minister Airlangga Hartarto explained that the government extended the work-from-home (WFH) policy because it effectively reduced fuel consumption. According to evaluations, since the WFH policy was implemented, Pertalite usage in April 2026 fell by nearly 9%.

‘We evaluated the WFH policy over two months and saw good results, with Pertalite usage dropping nearly 9% in April 2026. The results are positive, so it has been decided to continue,’ Airlangga said during an interview in Jakarta on Tuesday, 26 May 2026.

The government has officially extended the WFH policy for the next two months. The Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (KemenPAN-RB) will issue a new circular regarding the extension for civil servants.

Similarly, the State-Owned Enterprises Regulatory Body (BP BUMN) will issue its own circular. For the private sector, the Ministry of Manpower (Kemenaker) will release a circular advising WFH.

Previously, Airlangga stated the government has prepared further economic policies, including the two-month WFH implementation as part of a strategy to maintain national economic growth momentum amid global dynamics.

He added that the two-month WFH policy is part of the government’s adjustments to economic and labour policies.
