Surabaya — Airlangga University (Unair) has distributed 10,000 Ramadhan aid packages to orphans, orphanages, and underprivileged families across several regions in East Java as an expression of social responsibility and the university’s commitment to benefiting the community.

Rector of Airlangga University, Professor Muhammad Madyan, stated in Surabaya on Thursday that Ramadhan is an opportunity to strengthen social responsibility and increase acts of charity towards others.

“Ramadhan is a month full of blessings and teaches us to increase our faith, perform more good deeds, and develop care for one another,” he said.

“We hope this assistance can provide benefits and somewhat ease the burden for orphans, orphanages, and underprivileged families who receive it,” said Professor Madyan.

He added that this activity is part of Unair’s commitment to creating an impact-driven campus for society. According to him, higher education institutions must not only produce knowledge and outstanding graduates but also contribute meaningfully to the broader community.

“Sharing and social responsibility activities like today are concrete steps taken by higher education institutions to contribute to society. This also aligns with Unair’s commitment to various indicators in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, particularly in contributing to poverty eradication and improving community welfare,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation to donors, volunteers, and committee members involved in the activity.

“May each package we distribute today not only bring material assistance but also carry messages of care, togetherness, and hope for our brothers and sisters who receive them. May every good intention and charity we perform today be recorded by Allah as worship and bring blessings to us all,” he said.

Deputy Rector for Resources at Unair, Professor Ardianto, reported that the packaging of this year’s Ramadhan aid packages proceeded faster than in previous years.

“May the distribution of these Ramadhan aid packages proceed smoothly, safely, and with blessings,” he said.

Head of the Airlangga Institute for Learning and Growth (AILG), Dr Eko Supeno, explained that the Ramadhan aid package distribution activity has entered its 11th year. He noted that this year the assistance packages will be distributed to 18 districts and cities in East Java, orphanages, and Bidikmisi scholarship recipients at Unair.

“God willing, the distribution process will take place over three days from Thursday to Saturday. Hopefully, next year Unair can distribute these Ramadhan aid packages even more widely,” he said.

The programme also aligns with Unair’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly the first goal of No Poverty.
