The government is promoting the strengthening of Indonesia’s capital market to make it increasingly relevant for the younger generation, particularly Generation Z, as part of long-term economic development strategies.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that this aligns with efforts to deepen the domestic investor base while enhancing the resilience of the national financial market.

“We hope that the capital market is not only built for today, but built for the future, especially for Gen Z,” Airlangga concluded in his presentation at the Indonesia Stock Exchange building in Jakarta on Monday (27/4/2026).

He also encouraged all stakeholders to collaborate in utilising this momentum to strengthen the national financial market structure. Airlangga expressed optimism because various key points regarding the strengthening of the capital market had previously been conveyed in that forum.

In addition, Airlangga appreciated the development of the mutual fund industry, which he assessed as capable of deepening Indonesia’s capital market. He emphasised the high participation of young investors, which has reached more than 90% or around 24 million investors, as an important support for market stability.

“Young people who invest are already more than 90% and that’s 24 million. So hopefully this becomes a buffer for shock absorber in our capital market,” he said.

According to KSEI data, capital market investors grew almost twice as much in 2025 compared to the previous year’s growth, which reached 2,703,578 investors.

Investor growth throughout 2025 was still dominated by males at 66.35%. Based on profession, employees were the largest contributors with a portion of 66.20%, followed by investors with a high school/equivalent education background at 15.15%.

Meanwhile, the young age group plays an important role in the expansion of the investor base. It is recorded that 52.59% of new investors are under 30 years old, reflecting the high participation of the younger generation in the capital market.

From the income side, the majority of investors are in the range of Rp10 million to Rp100 million per month, with a portion reaching 57.29%.
