Airlangga: State Budget Saves Rp 6.2 Trillion from Civil Servants' WFH, Fuel Consumption Curbed by Rp 59 Trillion

The government is implementing work from home (WFH) or remote working for civil servants every Friday, with private sector employees following suit according to each business sector. This WFH policy is expected to save trillions in fuel oil (BBM) consumption.

This calculation was presented by Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto during a press conference on Tuesday (31/3/2026). Airlangga stated that the one-day-a-week WFH policy for civil servants, extending to private sector employees, has the potential to save billions of rupiah in fuel compensation.

“The potential savings from this work-from-home policy directly to the state budget amount to Rp 6.2 trillion in the form of fuel compensation savings,” said Airlangga.

Airlangga noted that the public energy efficiency policy will also contribute to fuel savings, potentially reaching tens of trillions.

“Meanwhile, the total fuel expenditure by the public has the potential to be saved by Rp 59 trillion,” he added.

As is known, the government has set a remote working or WFH policy for one day per week. This one-day WFH will apply every Friday.

“The implementation of work from home for civil servants in central and regional agencies, carried out for one working day per week, namely every Friday,” stated Airlangga.

Furthermore, the government is also implementing WFH for private sector employees. WFH for private sector employees will be adjusted to the characteristics and needs of each business sector.

“The implementation of work from home for the private sector will be further regulated in a Circular from the Minister of Manpower,” said Airlangga.

“While still considering the characteristics and needs of each business sector,” he continued.
