JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto has stated that he will allocate Rp 4 trillion to address the issue of 1,800 unguarded level railway crossings.

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said that the funding for the programme comes from the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN).

“Yes, if it’s the budget, the source is always the same (APBN),” said Airlangga at the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy in Jakarta on Tuesday (28/4/2026).

“This is actually already included in our work programme this year as directed by the President to around 1,800 railway crossings, during which those that must be repaired need to have gates,” said Dony.

Dony emphasised that safety aspects are the main focus of the programme, with the primary funding coming from the government through the Ministry of Transportation as the authority owner of the infrastructure.

“It’s from the government, we also have a budget, but from the government, this is indeed the Ministry of Transportation, which has the infrastructure coming from the government as well,” he said.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto stated that he would allocate Rp 4 trillion to address the issue of 1,800 unguarded level railway crossings.

Prabowo made the statement while directly inspecting the condition of the collision between the long-distance Argo Bromo Anggrek train and the KRL Commuterline at Bekasi Station, Bekasi City, West Java, on Tuesday (28/4/2026).

“We calculate around almost Rp 4 trillion, yes, for safety and because the railway is very important and very necessary, so we will allocate that,” said Prabowo.

According to Prabowo, thousands of these level crossing points have existed since the Dutch colonial era.

These crossings have also been a problem for Indonesian governments for decades.

Prabowo stated that his government will resolve the issue either by building flyovers or guard posts.

Therefore, there is no problem with the government allocating a budget of up to Rp 4 trillion to support the safety of many parties.

“Now is the time, after how many decades it hasn’t been done, now we will do it,” said Prabowo.
