Airlangga Showcases Major Investments Entering Indonesia in Front of Singapore

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Batam has become the gateway for investment entering Indonesia. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto cited several of these investments at the Nongsa Changi Landing Ceremony, which was also attended by Gan Kim Yong, Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry.

One of them is the BW Digital facility in Nongsa Digital, which provides up to 120 megawatts of power. In addition, the American technology giant Oracle has chosen Batam as the location for developing its new cloud computing region.

Industrial expansion has also driven Batam’s data centre industry to grow by 22% each year. It is hoped this achievement can help propel economic growth to 8%, as targeted.

“This is the right sector to drive Indonesia’s growth, so our desire to reach 8% can hopefully be realised with this digital ecosystem,” Airlangga said on Monday (20/7/2026).

On that occasion, he said the digital connection between Changi and Nongsa represents one of the hallmarks of a new era in the world of technology — the AI era, where communication occurs between humans and machines, with machines driving rapid digital connectivity.

He also touched on the speed of the Nongsa-Changi submarine cable, which has a capacity of 1.6 petabytes with a latency of just 0.2 milliseconds.

With such infrastructure capabilities, Airlangga assured that Nongsa-Changi will become the physical foundation of a new digital corridor. He joked that there would be no congestion in the digital world, unlike roads in the real world.

“Imagine covering the same distance from Jakarta to Bogor, about 50 kilometres, which takes more than an hour because of traffic jams. There are no traffic jams on this digital route. So, congratulations!” he said.
