Airlangga says BI system remains solid under new governor
Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto is optimistic that the Bank Indonesia (BI) system will remain solid under the leadership of a new governor. According to Airlangga, the central bank’s system is sufficiently mature to carry out the institution’s duties and functions, so the transition period for the BI Governor’s position is believed not to disrupt national economic stability. “We are confident because BI already has a system in place. So, whoever sits there, as long as they run the system and maintain cooperation, both fiscal and monetary, it will be good for economic growth, controlling inflation and creating jobs,” Airlangga told reporters at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office in Jakarta on Wednesday. Meanwhile, regarding the replacement for the BI Governor, Airlangga deferred the authority to President Prabowo Subianto. “Yes, we leave it to the President,” he said. Previously, the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK) assured that future financial system policies would remain solid with a focus on pro-growth and pro-stability amid the change of BI Governor. “We show the market that our policies remain solid, pro-growth, pro-stability, and market-friendly,” said Purbaya. He added that Acting BI Governor Destry Damayanti has adequate capacity, ability and knowledge to lead the central bank during the transition process. Destry Damayanti was appointed as Acting BI Governor in accordance with the mechanism stipulated in Law Number 23 of 1999 concerning Bank Indonesia, as amended several times, most recently through Law Number 4 of 2026 concerning Financial Sector Development and Strengthening. Meanwhile, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said that President Prabowo Subianto has not yet determined the figure who will replace Perry Warjiyo as BI Governor.
