Airlangga Reveals the Fate of Non-Subsidised Fuel Price Increases

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The government is maintaining the prices of subsidised fuels, such as Pertalite and solar, until December 2026. However, it admits that it is still reviewing the sustainability of increases in non-subsidised fuel prices going forward. Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated that the price increase for non-subsidised fuels is still under study. Airlangga assured that the announcement will be conveyed to the public. Airlangga confirmed that subsidised fuel prices can be maintained until December 2026, as long as the global oil price does not exceed an average of $97 per barrel. In line with Airlangga, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa emphasised that the government will not raise the prices of subsidised fuels until the end of 2026, even though global energy price pressures persist. Purbaya said that the policy will continue to be implemented because fiscal conditions are deemed strong enough to bear the energy subsidy burden. “Subsidies for fuel will not be eliminated and will continue until the end of the year,” Purbaya stated during a press conference at the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy on Monday (6/4/2026). He explained that the government has conducted various simulations assuming an average global oil price of $100 per barrel until the end of the year. According to him, under those conditions, subsidised fuel prices can be maintained without excessively burdening the budget.
