Airlangga reveals sectors attracting European Union investors
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has outlined a number of sectors attracting strong interest from European Union investors, as the ratification process for the Indonesia-EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU CEPA) continues.
These sectors include renewable energy, the digital industry, agriculture, and downstreaming of electric vehicles (EVs).
“We have discussed many sectors, including renewable energy, digital cyber security, and several others. Agriculture is also a matter of concern for both countries,” Airlangga said at a press conference in Jakarta on Friday.
With the implementation of IEU CEPA targeted to take effect in 2027, the government will optimise these sectors.
Chairwoman of the Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO) Shinta Widjaja Kamdani added that other sectors with potential to attract EU investors include fisheries, farming, and health.
She said the implementation of IEU CEPA is expected not only to boost trade but also to encourage new investment inflows.
“Our hope is that we can increase their investment here. Then whether they build infrastructure or anything else. This is perhaps what we need to see in real terms from the pipeline of projects in Indonesia,” Shinta explained.
“Because if they look at the issue of licensing, even if many incentives are provided, if these barriers are not resolved, it will be difficult for them as well,” she added.
